Theobaldus episcopus (eleventh-twelfth century);
often identified with Theobaldus, Abbot of Montecassino (1022-35); P. T. Eden, Theobaldi “Physiologus”, Mittelateinische Studien und Texte, 6 (Leiden, 1972), follows Manitius, ascerting that the author must have been a `magister’ in northern or central Italy in the eleventh or twelfth century.
