Handschuhsheim, Dieter V. von (1432-1487); nobleman in the service of the Electors Palatine Frederick I the Victorius (1451-76) and Philipp the Upright (1476-1508) at the Heidelberg court; in 1473 he was appointed protector of Frederick's son Louis; in 1474-5 he is attested as the leading household official (Hofmeister) at the court, and in 1476 as the presiding judge of the supreme court of the Palatinate; for these offices see H. J. Cohn, The Government of the Rhine Palatinate in the Fifteenth Century (Oxford, 1965, repr. Aldershot, 1991); he was married to Margarethe von Frankenstein (d.1483); in 1470 he founded the convent of Augustinian nuns in Handschuhsheim, near Heidelberg; buried in the church of S.
