collector of books by or about William Beckford of Fonthill (1760-1844), and of macaronic literature: these collections formed part of his bequest to the Bodleian, received by the Library in 1931 (for which see Craster 278, and C. J. H[indle], `The Hodgkin Bequest', BQR 6,69 (1931), 222); also owned Walsh 1720; John Hodgkin is not to be confused with John Eliot Hodgkin, also a book collector, who was his father.
