La Baume le Blanc, Louis César de (1708-1780); duc de La Vallière; French bibliophile and collector, who formed two libraries, the first (between 1735 and 1768) at the château de Montrouge, the second (between 1768 and 1780) under the guidance of his librarian, Jean Joseph Rive, q.v.; see Jean Poche, `Le duc de la Vallière, ses collections et ses ventes', Miscellanées bibliographiques, 3 (1880), 70-113; Dominique Coq, `Le paragon du bibliophile français: le duc de la Vallière et sa collection', Histoire des bibliothèques françaises, II 317-31; D.
