Details of provenance, owner, donor or other name

Augsburg, Bavaria, Staats- und Stadtbibliothek, previously Kreisbibliothek; for the book-plate see Albert Haemmerle, Die Buchzeichen der freien Reichsstadt Augsburg (n. pl., n. d.), nos i–viii; perhaps designed by Christoph Amberger c.1540-3. See G. C. Metzger, Geschichte der vereinigten königlichen Kreis- und Staatsbibliothek in Augsburg (Augsburg, 1842), 5-52; J. Bellot in Handschriften der Staats- und Stadtbibliothek Augsburg, vol. 1, ed. C. Gottwald (Wiesbaden, 1974), XIV–XVI, particularly XV, where 1833 is given as the year when books from Irsee were added to other collections; LGB (2nd edn), 171-2; also Historische Kataloge, 156-60. Numerous antiquarian items were acquired through an arrangement initiated in 1947, whereby the Staats- und Stadtbibliothek received modern British imprints in exchange for mostly sixteenth-century duplicates. Six incunabula were acquired as part of that exchange in 1960; see letter from Mrs K. M. Duparc to Dr Geissler; the cost of the exchange material was defrayed by Bodley's American Friends and the items were recorded as donations in BLR 6/5 (1960), 643. ♦ Categorisation: Type: Person. Gender: Unknown. Period: unknown century.
