Canonici, Matteo Luigi (1727-1805); Jesuit born in Venice; collected printed books, manuscripts, medals, coins, and statuary. On his death Canonici's collection of manuscripts passed to his brother Giuseppe (see above), and on his death (in 1807) to Giovanni Perissinotti, q.v. In 1817 the Bodleian Library purchased the greater part of the Canonici manuscript collection; see SC 313-421; J. B. Mitchell, 'Trevisan and Soranzo; Some Canonici Manuscripts from Two Eighteenth-century Venetian Collections', BLR 8 (1969), 125-35. ♦ Categorisation: Type: Person. Gender: Unknown.
