Binding: Early sixteenth-century Flemish panel tooled calf over wooden boards, clasp lost; rebacked. On both covers fillets form a frame; the inner rectangle is filled with a blind-tooled panel. On the upper cover a framed panel depicting S. Barbara holding a book and the martyr's palm, in front of a tower with three windows. On the lower cover a panel lettered around the edges ‘Notam fac michi uiam in | qua ambulem | [quia] ad [te leuaui] | animam meam' [Ps 142,8]; the central rectangle is divided into five horizontal compartments, the innermost one filled with triangular floral ornaments, the two outer ones on either side with tendrils surrounding animals. Front pastedown from a fifteenth/sixteenth-century printed edition of Guilelmus Duranti, Speculum iudiciale, lib. II, part III (De expensis que fiunt extra iudicium), with additions of Johannes Andreae, amounting to 32 lines from the end of an ‘a' column (only one word's width of col. ‘b'), with the marginal commentary cut off before the end of the page. Rear pastedown from a sixteenth-century edition of a work on logic (printer's waste). The gold stamp of the Bodleian Library pasted inside both covers.
