Each book begins with initials which are supplied in interlocked red and blue, some with red pen-work infill and extensions into the margins. Thereafter, within each book, initials and paragraph marks are supplied in red or blue. Capital strokes in red.

Provenance: Utrecht, Carthusian convent; inscription on a1r: ‘hic liber est cartusiensium prope Traiectum inferius'. Joseph Niesert (1766-1841); inscription on a1r; sale (1843), lot 13745; sale number on spine. Purchased for £0. 12. 6; see Books Purchased (1843), 4.

Binding: Seventeenth/eighteenth-century half blue calf over blue pasteboards.

Size: 312 × 215 × 52 mm.

Size of leaf: 300 × 202 mm.

Occasional early marginal notes and underlining in black ink. On O8v biblical quotations in a contemporary hand: ‘Qui sitit veniat et bibat' [Io 7,37]; ‘Qui credit in me non morietur in eternum' [see Io 11,26]; ‘Qui habet aures audiendi audiat' [phrase in Mt 11,15; Mc 4,9; Lc 8,8; Apc 2,7 etc.]; ‘Qui timet deum faciet bona': not identified.

On a2r a ten-line initial ‘I' is supplied in interlocked red and blue, with reserved white decoration. Each book thereafter begins with an initial supplied in blue, with red pen-work infill and extensions into the margins. Within each book, initials and paragraph marks are supplied in red. Capital strokes in red.
