Binding: Sixteenth-century (between 1526 and 1545) English (Cambridge) blind-tooled calf over wooden boards, two clasps lost; rebacked in the seventeenth/eighteenth century, upper cover loose; the gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers. On both covers fillets form a double frame; the inner rectangle is divided by a roll into two vertical compartments. In the inner frame, a roll with three figures of animals (a wyvern, a lion and a griffin) containing the housemark and initials of N[icholas] S[pierinck], Cambridge, who died in 1545; in the inner rectangle, a roll with quatrefoils within lozenge-shaped compartments; for the stamps see Gray 43-53 and pl. XXVIIA I and II; and Oldham, Blind-stamped Bindings, pl. xxxvii, no. 562 and pl. xxxix, no. 604.

Size of leaf: 250 × 168 mm.

Former pastedowns now raised; the front pastedown from an undated parchment manuscript of a treatise on sins, the back pastedown from a thirteenth-century(?) parchment manuscript of a Latin vocabularius (entries beginning with L).

On the recto of the front endleaf, an epitaph to François de Lorraine, duc de Guise, 21 Latin elegiac distichs in a seventeenth-century(?) hand, headed ‘Francisci Lothoringii Ducis Guisani fidei patriæque propugnatoris inuictiss. Tumulus Huberto Moro Ambiano authore', incipit: ‘[Hospes:] Dic age, quis dormit gelido sub marmore? Civis: | Qui dormire sibi credidit esse nephas'. On the verso, ‘Bis sapit qui sibi sapit. Bis vincit qui se vincit. Bis dat qui cito dat'.
