Binding: Contemporary German blind-tooled calf over wooden boards, one metal clasp. Yellow-edged leaves. On both covers double fillets form an intersecting double frame; the inner rectangle is divided by double fillets into lozenge-shaped compartments; in each compartment a small rosette stamp.

Size: 225 × 160 × 48 mm.

Size of leaf: 212 × 146 mm.

Former front pastedown, now raised, a fragment of a late thirteenth-century parchment manuscript containing antiphons; former rear pastedown, now raised, a fragment of a twelfth-century parchment breviary with neums.

Notes possibly concerning the following places: Langsdorf, Liecht, and Steinbach near Gießen in Hesse; on a1r of item 1, a note on sermons: ‘dominica prima post festum natiuitatis gloriose semper uirginis Marie [8 Sept.] | dedicacio ecclesie in Sternbach honeste celebratur' and a biblical quote: ‘Ex suis operibus cognoscitur . . . vt dicit saluator non . . .' (not identified, similar to Mt 7). On a1v of item 1, ‘Tullius 2° Rethorice: Non sufficit haberi quod oportet dicere, sed requi[re]tur ipsum negotium dicere, prout qualitas auditoris exigit et requirit' and a list of 12 rules for a preacher, incipit: ‘Cautela prima, quod [ullus] [presentator] vereri d[ebet] de reuerencia exhibenda domini nostri Ihesu Christi et gloriose virginis Marie. Secunda, quod numquam proferat nomen Dei, beate virginis uel alicuius sancti sine ad[iectiuo] . . .' On t6v of item 1 and a2r of item 2, ‘Doctores enim theologi allegantur uel in quolibetis uel supra . . .' Copious marginal notes, occasional glosses in German, cf. g4r. On i6r copies of two letters relating to impediments to marriage, the first one by the plebanus of Liecht and dated 30 Jan. [14]96, the second one by Johannes Starck, viceplebanus of Langsdorff. On the rear pastedown, a list of feast days and of names, some in German.

Red capital strokes and underlining.
