Wanting the blank leaf [a1] and gathering [cc] (the epistle of Menardus etc.).
Binding: Eighteenth-century gold-tooled red morocco; on both covers a floral roll forms a border, within which are triple fillets. Within the second fillet a cresting roll with a small floral tool; another floral tool in the corners; single fillets form a double frame; within the outer is the cresting roll decorated with the small floral roll; marbled pastedowns and gauffered edges.
Size: 378 × 285 × 110 mm.
Size of leaf: 360 × 260 mm.
A few sixteenth/seventeenth-century marginal notes.
Major initials are supplied in blue or red with decoration in several colours and pen-flourishing extending into the margins; minor initials, running headings, and paragraph marks are supplied alternately in red and blue, with Cologne style reserved white floral decoration; occasionally, red capital strokes and underlining.
Provenance: Horstmar, diocese of Münster, Jesuits; on [a2r] an inscription: ‘Missionis Horstmarie So[cieta]tis Jesu'. Purchased for £3. 6. 6; see Books Purchased (1826), 3.
