On both covers of each volume, the arms of Carl Theodor, Elector Palatine and Elector of Bavaria, the two shields over the collar of the Order of S. Hubertus, bearing the arms of Bavaria, Jülich, Cleves, Berg, Mörs, Bergen-op-Zoom, Veldenz, Mark, and Ravensberg: see Siebmacher 1/1, 16 pl. 20; see also Byw. A 3.8 and Auct. 1Q inf. 2.24. Gathering [a] is of Koberger's edition of 7 May 1485 (B‑319(3)).

Binding: Contemporary German blind-tooled calf over wooden boards. Two clasps lost; rebacked, with gold-tooled spine, the spine gold-tooled, lettered ‘S. Biblia N. Lyrani 1492'; see Bib. Lat. 1485 c.3 and Bib. Lat. 1492 c.2,4, but now badly worn. On both covers quadruple fillets form a frame, in which is half a lozenge-shaped foliate stamp. Further quadruple fillets form an inner frame, in which is a repeated floral stamp. The inner rectangle is divided by triple fillets into triangular and lozenge-shaped compartments, in which is the lozenge-shaped floral stamp or half stamp.

Size: 323 × 228 × 108 mm.

Size of leaf: 309 × 207 mm.

Very occasional early notes.

Woodcuts coloured in red, yellow, blue, and green wash. Principal initials are supplied in red or blue with reserved white decoration, and with pen-work infill and extensions into the margins in red, blue, yellow, and green; other initials are supplied in red or blue. Capital strokes in red.

Provenance: Heavily deleted inscription on [a1r]. Frater Simon Heym (fl. 1527); inscription on [a1r]: ‘Frater Symon Heym [ ] posessor huius codicis [ ] Biblie anno 1527'. Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex (1773-1843); book-plate with handwritten shelfmark ‘D.f.1': see Lee, Royal Bookplates, 41 no. 24; sale, lot 1182(?).
