Early marginal notes.

Principal initials at the beginning of each volume are supplied in blue, with foliate scrolling in white, on burnished gold ground, the gilt usually with punch-dotting, within a segmented frame of red, pale green, edged in yellow; in the frame, floral decoration supplied in red, green, blue, yellow, and pink, with dots in gold and, occasionally, in silver. Other initials, some with extensions into the margins, and paragraph marks are supplied in red. Some capital strokes in red. Rubrication dated ‘1494' on xx1v and xx7v.

Provenance: Largely erased inscription, on Da1r, A1r: ‘Pertinet ad Bibliothecam . . .', according to Sheppard possibly Augsburg, Bavaria, Benedictines, SS. Udalrichus et Afra, but too uncertain for transcription and the inscription does not follow the pattern of a book certainly owned by S. Georgius, B‑303(1). Georg Franz Burkhard Kloß (1787-1854); see sale catalogue (1835), lot 724, which is marked in the Bodleian copy as being purchased for the Library, and appears to be the only evidence for the Kloß provenance. Purchased for £1. 10. 0; see Books Purchased (1835), 5.

Binding: Sixteenth-century German blind-tooled pigskin over wooden boards, with remains of leather clasps. The upper cover badly worn. On both covers fillets form concentric frames; the outer, a foliate roll, within this a frame, in which is a foliate staff with rosette and, within this, a frame in which is a roll containing heads over a floral background with names; in the inner frame, a repeated fleur-de-lis stamp, two small floral stamps, and a fleuron. In the inner rectangle, a lozenge-shaped centre-piece and four small fleur-de-lis stamps, one at each corner of the rectangle. ‘Nicolai de Lyra Postilla' on spine in faded black ink.

Initials, some with extensions into the margins, and paragraph marks are supplied in red. Capital strokes and underlining in red. Some woodcuts are partially coloured in red.

Provenance: Heraldic book-plate on A1r: quarterly, 1 and 4, eagle dimidiated, 2 and 3, bust of a man wearing a pointed cap facing centre; crest, between wings, bust of man wearing pointed cap. Acquired between 1847 and c.1892; not found in Catalogus (1843), with Appendix.
