Binding: Eighteenth-century blind and gold-tooled calf; the spine gold-tooled; marbled pastedowns; watermark of the endpapers: snake on staff with the letters ‘S W'.

Size: 240 × 170 × 26 mm.

Size of leaf: 233 × 158 mm.

On [a1r] an Italian eight-line initial is supplied in gold surrounded by white vine-stems defined in red, blue or green. In the lower margin of [a1r] a coat of arms within a wreath (see below). Principal initials are supplied in gold on a red, blue, and green ground.

Provenance: Unidentified coat of arms within a wreath: argent, a tree eradicated, supporting a green climbing vine proper, the top enflamed. On the front endleaf an inscription: ‘Hoc saltem munere donetur amicitia. Apr. 1. 1821. Ph. W.’ Purchased for £1. 6. 0; see Books Purchased (1842), 4.
