Binding: Contemporary German blind-tooled calf over wooden boards, five bosses and two clasps on each cover lost; backed with blind-tooled half pigskin; pigskin strip along the lower edge. Tawed leather index tabs. The calf on both covers is decorated with fillets, which form a double frame; the inner rectangle is divided by fillets into triangular compartments. In the compartments and the upper and lower sections of the frame are two different floral stamps, a stamp with three acorns, and two different lozenge-shaped stamps; in the outer section of the frame a floral border with a small acorn stamp and a small lozenge-shaped stamp. The pigskin strips and back are decorated with two renaissance rolls.

Size: 406 × 300 × 170 mm.

Size of leaf: 390 × 270 mm.

Early marginal notes by Johannes Stainer in red and brown ink. Occasional running headlines in red ink.

On [a2r] an eight-line initial is supplied in red with reserved white decoration and floral pen-work infill and frame (Maiblumen) in brown and red ink; other initials and paragraph marks are supplied in red; red capital strokes and underlining.

Provenance: Johannes Stainer (fifteenth century); inscriptions on old front pastedown and elsewhere; on [a2r] and on [2 b9r] his painted shield bearing a bird on a triple mound, lettered in red ‘mira dura(?) buffa', above, ‘J', and below, ‘S'. Herrenwörth (Herrenchiemsee), Augustinian Canons, S. Salvator; inscription on [a2r]. Duplicate from the Royal Library, Munich; on [a1r] old shelfmark ‘Inc. Typ. Nro 845' and ‘Duplum'. Acquired between 1847 and c.1892, possibly in 1850; not in Catalogus (1843) with Appendix.
