Wanting the blank leaf [a1].

Binding: Eighteenth-century French olive-green morocco, probably faded from blue, with gold-tooled spine, decorated with a floral stamp, surrounded by small stars and dots, the turn-ins decorated with alternate zig-zag lines and fern tips; marbled pastedowns; gilt-edged leaves; the gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers.

Size: 317 × 225 × 33 mm.

Size of leaf: 307 × 208 mm.

Early marginal and interlinear notes, some in red ink, mainly commenting on the text; frequent in the first two gatherings.

On [a2r] a seven-line Venetian epigraphic initial ‘E' is supplied in gold surrounded by white vine-stems, defined in red, blue, and green, extending into a similar border, decorated with gold dots; see Pächt and Alexander II, 108 no. pr. 41; similar initials at beginnings of books; other epigraphic initials are supplied in blue. Marginal guide-letters for initials in black ink.
