Wanting the blank leaf [a1].

Binding: Eighteenth-century marbled calf; gold-tooled spine; marbled pastedowns; the gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers.

Size: 275 × 200 × 32 mm.

Size of leaf: 268 × 189 mm.

Marginal and interlinear notes, on the first three leaves in a neat early hand referring to the opinions of other classical authors; in another hand, some corrections to the text and a few marginal notes, mainly on the first pages; this hand also made some notes on the first pages of the Paradoxa; pointing hands.

On [a2r] a seven-line initial ‘Q', on [k1r] a seven-line initial ‘Q', and on [p1r] a five-line initial ‘M', are all supplied in gold on a ground of blue, green, and maroon, decorated with filigree and edged in black ink. Some other epigraphic initials are supplied in red.

Provenance: Heavily erased inscription on the recto of back endleaf. Antoine Augustin Renouard (1765-1853); sale (1830), lot 424. Purchased at the Renouard sale for £4. 0. 0; see Books Purchased (1830), 5.
