Binding: Contemporary French (Paris) blind-tooled calf over wooden boards; two metal clasps lost. On both covers a panel-stamp depicting the martyrdom of S. Sebastianus, inscribed DENIS ROCE; see G. D. Hobson, ‘Parisian Binding 1500-1525', Library, 4th ser., 11 (1931), 432. The second front endleaf contains a fifteenth/sixteenth-century woodcut of S. Christophorus, 45 × 82 mm

On f4r of item 1: ‘Qui cest liure emblera | propter sui maliciam | Par my le coul pundu(!) sera | Repungnando superbiam | Au gibet sera sa maison | Coram suis parentibus | Car ce fera bone raison | exemplum dabit omnibus' in a fifteenth/sixteenth-century hand, and repeated at the end of item 2; running headlines of chapter numbers in black ink. Ruling in red ink.

Provenance: On the front endleaf an inscription: ‘François Kinidu' in a sixteenth-century hand; on f4r of item 1 inscription: ‘F Kynydu h[abet] in sua vysy [usu?] ipse'; on V3v: ‘Francoys Kynydu h[abet] in [ ] wysy[?] ipse [?]'. John Selden (1584-1654); see MS. Broxb. 84. 10, p. 77: ‘Constitutions de tres noble duche de la Bretagne avec les Coustumes de le mer. Rouen.’ Presented in 1659.
