Binding: Contemporary German blind-tooled quarter pigskin over wooden boards; remains of one metal clasp; spine painted dark brown. Vertical impression of an ornamental roll on both covers. Pastedowns from a fifteenth-century manuscript missal, containing the text and musical notation of the proper prefaces for Christmas and Easter.

Size: 206 × 143 × 27 mm.

Size of leaf: 190 × 134 mm.

Initials and paragraph marks are supplied in red; red capital strokes and underlining.

Provenance: Würzburg, Bavaria, Conventual Franciscans, Inventio crucis/Sancta crux; ‘Ad Bibliothecam FF. Min. Convent. Wirceburgi', printed label of front pastedown. Old shelfmark in pencil: ‘Engelbert H 119'. Philip Bliss (1787-1857); initial p written before the signature b on b1r, followed by no. ‘36'; on front pastedown a note: ‘of Lumley, Chancery Lane'; Edward Lumley (fl. 1842-1853).
