a1v [Menandros pseudo-]: ‘ Γνω̂μαι μονόστιχοι ἐκ διαφόρων ποιητω̂ν κατὰ στοιχει̂ον συντεταγμέναι .’ Edited by Johannes Lascaris. Menandros, Sententiae, ed. Siegfried Jaekel (Leipzig, 1964); Lascaris used a manuscript of the class Γ; the Sententiae occur in the order listed by Jaekel in his ‘Praefatio', pp. xi–xiii. GW will catalogue the item under Menandros; on the ascription see Jaekel's ‘Praefatio', pp. xvii–xviii.

Binding: Eighteenth-century English (London) gold-tooled red morocco, gilt-edged leaves, blue pastedowns, azure silk book-mark; probably bound for the Bodleian Library by Christian Samuel Kalthoeber in 1789-90; on 1 Dec. 1789 the Curators of the Bodleian authorized one of their number, William Jackson, Regius Professor of Greek, to carry to London nine books in order to have them bound or repaired, one of which was this book; see minutes of the Curators' meeting, 1 Dec. 1789 (Library Records e. 4, fols 69-70).

Size of leaf: 213 × 145 mm.

Provenance: Possibly John Selden (1584-1654); see shelfmark of 1674, but not found in MS. Broxb. 84. 10. Acquired by 1674; see Hyde, Catalogus (1674), I 293 (then bound with Euripides, Tragoediae quattuor [Florence: Laurentius (Francisci) de Alopa, before 18 June 1495] (E‑039)).
