Copies

Copy number: H-080(1)

Bound in two volumes.

Wanting the blank leaf AAa1.

In volume 2 gathering QQq is misbound after gathering BB. At the end of volume 2 are bound duplicates of gatherings2 a–c, containing Psalterium iuxta Hebraicam veritatem, and of gatherings AA–CC, containing Lib. VI in Hieremiam and Super Lamentationes. At the foot of the duplicate2 c6v a variant: instead of the word ‘FINIS', the last two lines of text of b3r (`Et conuersi sunt . . . | . . . tribulante') are repeated. These have been struck out with a pen and ‘finis' has been supplied in manuscript, as noted in Polain 1946.

Binding: Nineteenth-century blind-tooled calf; bound for the Library; marbled pastedown; the gold stamp of the Bodleian on both covers. Scars of index tabs. Title in black ink along the lower edge of volume 1 in a sixteenth-century hand, also shelfmark on fore-edge: ‘E XII'.

Size: Vol. 1: 358 × 250 × 63 mm; vol. 2: 358 × 250 × 72 mm.

Size of leaf: 343 × 215 mm.

Occasional early marginal annotations and ‘nota' marks.

In vol. 1 and the duplicate gatherings2 a–c only: capital strokes in red.

Provenance: Lille, French Flanders, Augustinian Canons Regular, S. Petrus; inscription on BB6v: ‘Ad usum fratrum Canonicorum Regularium in Insula'; this is possibly relevant only for volume 2; cf. also the capital strokes and the title and shelfmarks on the edges in volume 1. Georg Franz Burkhard Kloß (1787-1854); book-labels from old binding attached to front pastedown of each volume; sale (1835), no. 2011. Purchased for £0. 19. 0; see Books Purchased (1835), 14.

SHELFMARK: Auct. 6Q 1.1-2.
