Wanting the blank leaf <ee–hh>8.

By an error of imposition the text of O2r and O7v has changed places.

Binding: Contemporary German (Augsburg, Kyriß workshop no. 83) blind-tooled calf over wooden boards. Triple fillets form a triple frame; within the outer frame are palmette stamps, within the subsequent frames are crocketed cresting and floral rolls; see Kyriß pl. 169, roll 1, which dates to between 1483 and 1503. In the inner rectangle headed-outline tools make up merrythoughts, each containing a thistle stamp. ‘Holgot' is stamped and gilt on the head of the upper cover; for another book printed by Otmar and with the title stamped in gold see B‑341. Rebacked.

Corrected proofs of g1v and g7v of Albumasar, Introductorium in astronomiam, Augsburg: Erhard Ratdolt, 7 Feb. 1489 (A‑157), removed from the binding; now Vet. A1 a.4(12).

Page numbering on the rectos and versos in an early hand. Running chapter numbers in the upper margin of the rectos, a few ‘nota' marks, and pointing hands in a different early hand. A slip of paper containing a sale lot number ‘546' is pasted on the front endleaf.

Initials and underlining of chapter headings on a1-2 only are supplied in red.

In this copy the error of imposition has been corrected. With the book are kept a postcard addressed to A. Ehrman from Adolf Schmidt, director of the Landesbibliothek in Darmstadt, dated 16 Apr. 1927, concerning the identification of the binding, and two letters addressed to A. Ehrman from the Kommission für den Gesamtkatalog der Wiegendrucke, dated 22 Apr. and 6 May 1927, also concerning the binding and referring to Jahrbuch der Einbandskunst, 9 (1927), for the identification and for a reproduction of the coat of arms of Kaisersheim.

Binding: Contemporary blind-tooled white pigskin over wooden boards; probably bound for the Cistercian abbey of Kaisheim by the printer, Johann Otmar. Two clasps and catches; formerly chained: staple-marks of a hasp at the head of lower cover. On the upper cover, triple fillets form an intersecting triple frame; within the outer frame, rosette stamps; within the second frame a foliate stamp and lozenge-shaped stamps with a shield bearing the arms of the Cistercian monastery of Kaisheim surrounded by the letters ‘M' and ‘K', an eagle, and a fleur-de-lis. Triple fillets divide the inner rectangle into lozenge-shaped and triangular compartments, with rosette stamps at the points of intersection. On the lower cover, triple fillets form an intersecting double frame. Triple fillets divide the inner rectangle into lozenge-shaped and triangular compartments, decorated with the shield, eagle, fleur-de-lis, and foliate stamps. At the head of the upper cover, two paper labels with the name of the author and title: ‘Robertus holgot super libros Sapientie' and shelfmark: ‘C[red] 13', in brown ink. At the tail of the spine a later shelfmark, in dark brown ink: ‘A 141'. ‘1069' in black ink on rear pastedown. The rear pastedown is leaf I3 from Gabriel Biel, Sacri canonis missae expositio. [Reutlingen:] Johann Otmar, 15 Nov. 1488 (cf. B‑341).
