Remarks: As assigned by Short-title Catalogue of Books Printed in the German-speaking Countries and German Books Printed in Other Countries from 1455 to 1600 now in the British Museum (London, 1962), p. 418, and dated by CIBN; Pr assigns to [Cologne: Heinrich Quentell]. Short-title Catalogue dates [1510?], and G. Keil, ‘Hortus sanitatis', VL IV 154-163, at 160 [c.1499].

Wanting c3.4, d2-6, n6, S2.7, V2-5, Aa6.

Binding: Seventeenth-century English (Oxford) blind-tooled calf; two ties lost. Formerly chained: staple marks of a hasp at the head of the upper cover. On both covers intersecting triple fillets form a frame. Ornamental centre-piece. ‘22' (shelfmark) written across the fore-edge in black ink.

Size: 298 × 217 × 73 mm.

Size of leaf: 201 × 293 mm.

Provenance: Robert Burton (1577-1640)(?); inscription on K1r: ‘Ro. Burton Ædis Christi'; but see Kiessling, Robert Burton, no. 840, who says that this copy shows no evidence of having been Burton's, and that the annotation is not in Burton's hand. Kiessling notes that this copy has been entered in the interleaved copy of James, Catalogus (1620) under ‘Sanitas' (by John Rous, Bodley's Librarian) and under ‘Hortus' (in another hand, not that of Rous).
