Binding: Contemporary blind-tooled pigskin over wooden boards, corner-pieces and centre-piece lost; remains of two catches. On the upper cover, triple fillets form an intersecting frame surrounded by foliate staff stamps, and stamps of a bunch of flowers, of leaves, and of grapes, lozenge-shaped eagle and unicorn stamps, and lobe-shaped wyvern stamps, for which see Weale–Taylor pl. xxii no. 15. In the inner rectangle decorated headed-outline tools make up merrythoughts, each containing a pomegranate stamp. On the lower cover, triple fillets form an intersecting frame surrounded by five lozenge-shaped fleur-de-lis stamps arranged as a star, heart-shaped fleur-de-lis stamps, lozenge-shaped pelican stamps, the wyvern stamps, and the stamps of bunches of flowers, leaves, and grapes. Vertical triple fillets divide an inner rectangle into four compartments, the outer ones with the eagle and unicorn stamps, the inner ones with a tree design made of pointed apex stamps and floral stamps. Formerly chained: staple-marks of a hasp at the head of lower cover. On the spine the pointed apex stamps. Red leather index tabs. ‘Inc. 4609' in brown ink on paper bookmark.

On [H10r] a marginal note in a contemporary hand in brown ink: ‘Expliciunt sermones . . .'; a few other notes, mainly correcting the text, in the same hand.

Initials and paragraph marks are supplied in red or blue; underlining of chapter headings and capital strokes in red.

Provenance: Johannes Kesting (fifteenth century); inscription on [a1r]: ‘Dominus Iohannes Kestingus Canonicus'. Duplicate from the Royal Library, Munich; Munich shelfmark, ‘Inc. Typ. No. 679' on [a1r], ‘679' on paper label at the head of the spine, and ‘Dupl' on [a1r]. Acquired between 1847 and c.1892, possibly in 1850; not in Catalogus (1843) with Appendix.
