Binding: Sixteenth-century blind-tooled calf over wooden boards, with sprinkled red-edged leaves. Triple fillets form a quadruple frame. No decoration within the outer frame; within the following frame, an interlaced tool roll; within the following frame, a tendril roll with medallions. Remains of a leather clasp with five nails. Rebacked.
Size: 254 × 195 × 85 mm.
Size of leaf: 247 × 188 mm.
Marginal notes, extracting key words, ‘nota' marks, pointing hands, and running sermon numbers in different early hands. Drawings on X5r. ‘927' in pencil on the upper left-hand corner of front pastedown.
Some initials are supplied in red with reserved white decoration. Other initials, paragraph marks, and underlining of chapter headings are supplied in red; capital strokes in red.
Provenance: ‘Liber D. Cornelii Io[ ] Leydensis' (sixteenth/seventeenth century). Wavre, Brabant, Franciscan Recollects: inscription: ‘Bibliothecæ fratrum Minorum Wavriensium Anno 1665.' and inscription on front pastedown, a1r-v, and on several other leaves: ‘Recollets de Wavre. Minderbroeders van Waver. 1705'. ‘Medij(?). Franciscus de groose' in a seventeenth-century hand on DD6v. Engelbert-Karl Arenberg, 10th Duke of Arenberg (1899-1974).
