Leaf a2 signed a1.

Binding: Sixteenth-century blind-tooled pigskin over wooden boards, with remains of clasps and catches and blue-edged leaves. Triple fillets form six frames. No stamps within the outer one; within the following one a cresting roll; within the following three frames, three different foliate rolls. The inner rectangle is decorated with an oval ornamental centre-piece and fleuron stamps in the corners. ‘F.F.' on the spine.

Size: 404 × 268 × 105 mm.

Size of leaf: 394 × 259 mm.

15- to 17-line initials are supplied in interlocked red and blue on a2r,2 a1r,3 a1r, and4 a1r; other initials are supplied in red, underlining of chapter headings and capital strokes in red.

A few ‘nota' marks.

Provenance: Fürstenfeld, Bavaria, Cistercians, BVM and S. Bernardus; inscription on a2r: ‘Monasterij Fürstenueld'. Duplicate from the Royal Library, Munich; Munich shelfmark, ‘Inc. 1222' and ‘Dupl' on the verso of the front endleaf and on a1v. Purchased for £1. 0. 0; see Books Purchased (1846), 12.

Fragments. Parts of leaves o5 and o6 only, used as pastedowns (now raised) in the binding of Libre appellat consolat de mar ... (Barcelona: Johannes Rosembach, 1518). Not in Sheppard.

Binding (of AA 16 Art. Seld.): Sixteenth/seventeenth-century blind-tooled calf (fillets only) over pasteboards. Formerly chained; staple mark of a hasp at the head of the upper cover. '16' (shelfmark) in black ink on the fore-edge.

Size of leaf: 275 × c.225 mm.
