Gathering [z] is misbound before [y]. Wanting [B5, 6], both blank.

Binding: Contemporary German blind-tooled leather over wooden boards, with bosses and remains of clasps; three nails, originally four, indicate the place of a title-label on the upper cover. Triple and quadruple fillets form a double frame; two different floral stamps surround the outer frame. Within the outer frame, on the upper cover only, lozenge-shaped stamps of a double-headed eagle and rosette stamps. Triple and quadruple fillets divide an inner rectangle into lozenge-shaped and triangular compartments, each containing a palmette stamp or one of two tendril stamps. Strips from a fourteenth-century manuscript visible in the binding. Yellow-edged leaves.

Size: 290 × 210 × 70 mm.

Size of leaf: 280 × 204 mm.

On [a1r] a six-line initial ‘Q' is supplied in red with yellow decoration, within an azure ground surrounded by a pink and green frame; the area defined by the letter is green. From the tail of the letter departs a foliate and floral border supplied in red, green, blue, pink, and yellow. Some large initials are supplied in blue with red pen-work decoration. Other initials and paragraph marks are supplied in red or blue.

Provenance: Caspar Augsburger, Abbot of St Georgenberg (1469-91). Fiecht, Tyrol, Benedictines, S. Josephus (formerly St Georgenberg); his coat of arms and that of the monastery painted within the decorated border on [a1r]: argent, cross of St. George, gules, with escutcheon en surtont, argent, a watering can, gules. Inscriptions on [a1-2r], [B3v] and [B4r]: ‘In usum Fratrum Montis S: Georgij. 1652' ‘Ad Bibliothecam Monasterij Montis S. Georgij. 1659.’ Purchased for £1. 1. 0; see Books Purchased (1851), 64.

Binding: Contemporary blind-tooled half pigskin over wooden boards, partly covered with marbled paper. Quintuple fillets form an intersecting frame; quintuple fillets divide the inner rectangle diagonally into four triangular compartments, decorated with circular stamps with the emblems of Sts Mark and Luke (Matthew and John are probably covered by the marbled paper), lozenge-shaped swan stamps, and small circular floral stamps.

The gatherings are numbered in the lower margin of the rectos.
