At the beginning is mounted a duplicate of [a1], the recto bearing a manuscript title dated 1603.

Binding: Nineteenth-century blind-tooled calf (c.1825) for the Bodleian; sprinkled red-edged leaves; the gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers.

Size: 393 × 280 × 40 mm.

Size of leaf: 383 × 273 mm.

Inscription in Danish verse on the duplicate of [a1], dated 1603: ‘Huillcken som forgangne ting will actte | Och thett neruerrendis er / betractte / | Och huad komme skall / besinde kand / Thedt er foruisdtt een wiser Mand. | Werden er forgengellig | Gudtz Rige warer æuindellig. | Forti Fortior Alter. | Favor fortunam sequitur. | Anno | 1603.' A few marginal notes, mainly extracting key words, in a contemporary German hand. Manuscript signatures in the lower right-hand corner of the rectos. On the rear pastedown: ‘R.H. 2.5.60.’

On [a2r] an eight-line initial is supplied in blue within a square green ground, with the area defined by the letter supplied in red with a chequered design. Other initials, paragraph marks, underlining of chapter headings, and capital strokes are supplied in red.

Provenance: Helmstedt, Lower Saxony, Benedictine Priory of Werden, S. Ludgerus; inscription on the recto of the duplicate of [a1]: ‘Non videat Xm qui librum subtrahit istum a conuentu halmstadensiorum.’ Inscription on endleaf: ‘Purchased at Hamburgh 1825'.
