Binding: Eighteenth/nineteenth-century gold-tooled diced russia; gilt-edged leaves, marbled pastedowns; the gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers.

Size: 312 × 222 × 37 mm.

Size of leaf: 300 × 203 mm.

Marginal notes, including comments on the text, pointing hands, and ‘nota' marks.

On a2r an eight-line Venetian/north Italian initial ‘C' is supplied in maroon and pink on a gold ground within a black border, the area within the body of the letter being decorated in blue, yellow, and white, and with extensions into the margins in maroon, red, and green, and ending in gold dots; see Pächt and Alexander II 115, no. pr. 155. Other two-, three-, and seven- to nine-line initials are supplied in red or blue.

Provenance: Philippus Fortiguerra, perhaps to be identified with Filippo Forteguerri (fl. 1560); name faintly visible in the upper margin of a2r. Maffeo Pinelli (1735-1785); see Morelli (1787), III no. 6331; sale (1789), lot 11234. Purchased through Peter Elmsley for £4. 4. 0; see the annotated sale catalogue and Books Purchased (1789), 5.
