Binding: Contemporary blind-tooled sheep dyed red, over wooden boards, with two metal catches and remains of two clasps. Formerly chained: staple-marks of a hasp at the head of the lower cover. On the upper cover intersecting double fillets form the outer frame. Within this is a lozenge-shaped foliate stamp. Double fillets form the inner rectangle, which is divided by further double fillets (forming a saltire cross) into triangular compartments, and is decorated with the foliate stamp. On the lower cover the frame and the inner rectangle are as for the upper cover, but with no further decoration. Title and shelfmarks (`3 A'; ‘ZZ'; ‘1 W E') across the upper edge and the fore-edge. Lower cover detached.

Size: 218 × 158 × 54 mm.

Size of leaf: 210 × 154 mm.

The books are numbered in a fifteenth/sixteenth-century hand in black ink; book numbers have also been added to the table of contents; occasional early annotations.

Three- to seven-line initials and paragraph marks are supplied in red or blue; capital strokes and underlining in red.

Provenance: Anonymous sale (London: Sotheby's, 24 Feb. 1834), lot 480; remains of an octagonal paper label at the tail of the spine. Purchased for £0. 10. 0; see Books Purchased (1834), 19.

Binding: Eighteenth-century(?) quarter parchment with paper boards.

Early annotations in both tables, also, on the blank leaf 310r-v, lists of the contents of the De antiphonis (Stegmüller, Repertorium biblicum, 4777(II) 13), the Expositio hymnorum (Stegmüller, Repertorium biblicum, 4777(II) 15), the De sermonibus et homiliis (Stegmüller, Repertorium biblicum, 4777(II) 16), and the De legendis sanctorum (Stegmüller, Repertorium biblicum, 4777(II) 17), all written in one sixteenth-century hand.

On a1r a seven-line initial ‘I' and a seven-line initial ‘F', on c8v a five-line initial ‘F', and on i6v a four-line initial ‘O', are all supplied in blue with red pen-work decoration and extensions into the margins; other three- to five-line initials, some with extensions into the margins, and paragraph marks are supplied in red or blue. Irregular manuscript foliation: 1-212.

Provenance: Michael Wodhull (1740-1816); purchase note in his hand on the recto of the rear endleaf: ‘Mar: 14th 1799'; some notes on the front endleaf, the upper portion of which (presumably containing further notes) has been cut away. Francis Douce (1757-1834); armorial book-plate. Bequeathed in 1834.
