Binding: Nineteenth-century blind-tooled calf; mottled edges; marbled pastedowns; the gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers; bound for the Library(?).

Size: 309 × 221 × 33 mm.

Size of leaf: 300 × 203 mm.

On a4r an initial ‘B' is supplied in blue with reserved white decoration painted over in gold, and with the body of the letter decorated in red and gold, within a red pen-work border, and with red pen-work extensions into the margins; six- to eight-line initials are supplied at the beginning of each book in red or blue with reserved white decoration painted in gold; other four- to seven-line initials, some with extensions into the margins, some with reserved white decoration, and paragraph marks are supplied in red or blue; the first 12 couplets have been painted over in gold; capital strokes in red.

Provenance: Erased early inscription on a1r, unread under ultraviolet light: ‘Colleg[ ] P[ ]'. P. Peirson (eighteenth century?); inscriptions on a1v, and [con]6r: ‘E libris P. Peirson'. Purchased by Heber for £0. 19. 0, according to the price annotated in red ink in Heber's sale catalogue. Richard Heber (1773-1833); stamp on the recto of the front endleaf; see Catalogue, 1 (1834), lot 4683. Purchased for £1. 3. 0; see Books Purchased (1834), 19.
