Wanting the blank leaf2 a8.

Binding: Contemporary German blind-tooled calf over wooden boards; two clasps and catches lost. Triple fillets form a triple frame. Within the outer frame, a crocketed cresting roll, and a rope, floral, and foliate roll. Within the following frame, a circular rosette stamp. The inner rectangle is decorated with a tetragon with concave sides containing a floral stamp.

Size: 173 × 123 × 44 mm.

Size of leaf: 164 × 111 mm.

‘529' corrected to ‘519' in brown ink in the upper margin of front pastedown. Below, ‘Inc. 191' in pencil.

Initials, paragraph marks, and underlining of chapter headings are supplied in red.

Provenance: Augsburg, Bavaria, Benedictines, SS. Udalrichus et Afra; inscription on a1r: ‘Monast: S. Vdalrici, Augae’. Duplicate from the Royal Library, Munich; ‘Dupl' on front pastedown and ‘Inc. 246' on a slip. Date of acquisition unknown; no indication from the shelfmark.

Wanting gathering2 a containing the tables.

Binding: Contemporary German (Cologne, ‘Jhesus binder of Cologne'; Kyriß workshop no. 96) calf over bevelled wooden boards. Single clasp hinged to the lower cover. Intersecting triple fillets form a frame. Further intersecting triple fillets form the inner rectangle which is divided diagonally by ten sets of triple fillets into lozenges and triangles, and decorated with a fleur-de-lis stamp and a hound stamp; see Kyriß pl. 195, nos 1 and 6. Rebacked.

Size: 177 × 125 × 43 mm.

Size of leaf: 168 × 112 mm.

Pastedowns consist of parchment leaves from a fourteenth/fifteenth-century breviary.

Initials are supplied in red or blue; paragraph marks and capital strokes are supplied in red.

Provenance: Nicholas Chysgen (sixteenth century); cancelled inscription on a1r: ‘Ad usum fratris Nicolai Chysgen de Herpena ordinis minorum . . . Anno 1513 in die S. Elisabeth.' Bredelar, North Rhine-Westphalia, Cistercian Nuns, S. Maria; inscription on a1r: ‘Liber B. M. Virginis de Bredelar'. Johannes Cruisse of Oldenstadt (eighteenth century); inscription on a1r: ‘F Johannes Cruisse Uleschedensis'.
