Binding: Contemporary German (Leipzig, Kyriß workshop no. 106) blind-tooled pigskin over wooden boards, two clasps and catches lost. Leather index tabs and yellow-edged leaves. Intersecting triple fillets form a triple frame. Within the middle frame a repeated foliate staff stamp. The inner rectangle is decorated with merrythought panels, made up from headed-outline tools and each containing a fleuron; see Kyriß pl. 215, nos 1, 2, 4. ‘Missale' stamped at the head of upper cover.

Size: 365 × 260 × 65 mm.

Size of leaf: 355 × 248 mm.

On a1r and i6r initials are supplied in grey edged in black, with the body of the letter in gold, within a green and red frame, and with acanthus leaves, extension into the margin, and gold dots. A few initials are supplied in interlocked red and blue, other initials are supplied in blue. The woodcut of the Crucifixion on i5v is painted in gold and colours.

Provenance: ‘2230' on a bookseller's circular label at the tail of the spine. Samuel Butler (1774-1839); sale, pt II, lot 1398; lot number on the front endleaf.
