Frequent early marginal notes, many apparently in one sixteenth-century hand, but also in other sixteenth- and seventeenth-century hands, including comments on the text and ‘nota' marks.

Provenance: Richard Forster (1546?–1616); inscription on a1r: ‘Liber Richardi Forster prec. 9s 8d’. John Selden (1584-1654); see MS. Broxb. 84. 10, p. 16. Presented in 1659.

Leaves a1 and [rum rum8] both backed. Other leaves repaired.

Binding: Seventeenth-century English (Oxford) calf. Formerly chained: staple-marks of a hasp at the head of the upper cover. On both covers is a very worn ornamental centre-piece: see Ker, Pastedowns, pl. X, centre-piece no. xxxii. Rebacked, with gold-tooled spine. Binding very damaged; upper board detached.

Size: 306 × 218 × 70 mm.

Size of leaf: 294 × 197 mm.

Some early marginal annotations.

Provenance: Johannes Heurnius (Jan van Heurne) (1543-1601). Jacobus Saal, present from Heurnius, 1592; inscription on a1r: ‘D[ominus?] Doctor Johannes Huernius myhi hoc munusculum dedit 1592. Jacobus Saal'. Oxford, University College; two book-plates, one on the front pastedown, with the shelfmark ‘RR.18.7', the other (an earlier example) on a1r; remains of a paper shelfmark label at the head of the spine; ‘List of Rare Books', p. 1. Deposited in 1941 by the Master and Fellows of University College, Oxford.
