Binding: Eighteenth-century blind-tooled calf; gold-tooled spine; marbled pastedowns. Several scars of index tabs.

Size: 276 × 200 × 67 mm.

Size of leaf: 262 × 169 mm.

On [a2r] a 15-line initial ‘Q' is supplied in blue with reserved white decoration, within a red pen-work border extending into the inner margin, and with the body of the letter decorated with a rosette in red, brown, and cream on a ground of red pen-work; other three- to ten-line initials, some with extensions into the margins, and paragraph marks are supplied in red; capital strokes and underlining in red.

Provenance: Engelbert-Karl Arenberg, 10th Duke of Arenberg (1899-1974); at the head of the spine a white paper label edged with three blue lines, bearing the number ‘90'; note on the verso of the front endleaf (in the hand of David Rogers): ‘From the Library of the Duc d'Arenberg'. Purchased in 1961, out of the Gordon Duff Fund; see ‘Notable Accessions: Printed Books', BLR 7,1 (1962), 54, and book-plate on the verso of the front endleaf: ‘Bought out of the Gordon Duff Fund'.

Wanting the blank leaves [a1] and [L12].

Binding: Eighteenth-century(?) blind-tooled mottled calf (fillets only); sprinkled red-edged leaves. Gold-tooled labels on the spine, naming the author and title, and providing the date of printing. Remains of shelfmark label(?) at the head of the spine: ‘X[X]XIII'. Blue-edged label, numbered ‘10' at the tail of the spine.

Size: 280 × 209 × 70 mm.

Size of leaf: 274 × 185 mm.

Provenance: Vienna, Jesuits; cancelled inscription in the upper margin of [a2r]: ‘Dom. Preb. S. J. Viennae ad s. anno 1700'. Cancelled inscription in lower margin of [a2r]. Vienna, municipal library; manuscript book label: ‘Ex Bibliotheca Civica Vindobonensi'. Two stamps on [a2r]: an oval stamp containing the letters ‘MD', and a circular stamp, lettered and with a decoration in the centre, the impression of which is not clear enough to be read. Shelfmark in red pencil on the front pastedown: ‘7.A.34/53'. Dr Brian Lawn (1905-2001); book-plate; catalogue, p. 118. Bequeathed in 2001.
