Inscription in a contemporary German hand on [t4v]: ‘Nota Tullius In legibus ponit octo genera penarum que etiam refert Augustinus 21 De ci[vitate] dei et h(?) 119 videlicet(?) libro 12 capitulo 11. 8 genera penarum: Mortem per quam tollitur vita | Verbera | Talionem scilicet oculum pro oculo per que tollitur corporis incolomitas(!) | Seruitutem Vincula per que amittit quis libertatem | Exilium per quod perdit patriam | Damnum per quod perdit diuicias | Ignominiam per quam perdit gloriam'.

Initials, paragraph marks, and underlining of chapter headings are supplied in red; capital strokes in red. Chapter numbers in the upper margin of the rectos and gathering numbers, ‘12-30', are supplied by the rubricator.

Provenance: H. de Lassize (nineteenth century?); sale (Paris, 30 Jan. 1867), lot. 104. Purchased in 1867 according to Sheppard, but not found in Library Bills.
