Binding: Seventeenth-century mottled calf with blind-tooled fillets; sprinkled red-edged leaves; the gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers.

Size: 265 × 190 × 45 mm.

Size of leaf: 262 × 175 mm.

‘47' in brown ink in the upper margin of a2r. A few marginal notes in an early Italian(?) hand, in red ink. On c1r-v manuscripts notes, apparently a transcription of classical works, in a sixteenth-century English hand. In the lower margin of the leaves up to l1v Latin proverbs from Thomas Elyot's Biliotheca Eliotae, first published in 1542, with an English translation similar to, but not exactly taken from, Elyot's work; in B. B.'s hand. Occasional marginal notes, mainly commenting on the text with reference to Perottus, in a different sixteenth-century English hand. Manuscript foliation supplied in two different early hands: ‘1-171' in the upper right-hand corner of the rectos and ‘1-65' in the lower right-hand corner of the rectos.
