Binding: Contemporary French calf with panel stamps bearing the name of André Boule. Triple fillets form a quadruple frame. Within the outer frame is a floral roll within lozenges. Within the following one, a floral roll. Within the inner frame is a roll decorated with bees. The inner rectangle is decorated, on the upper cover, with a panel showing the martyrdom of S. Sebastian; see Goldschmidt pl. xxiv. On the lower is a panel showing Christ on the cross between S. Thomas Aquinas and S. Catherine of Siena; reproduced in Cyril Davenport, Cameo Book-stamps Figured and Described (London, 1911), no. xxxv; see also Strickland Gibson, ‘Bookbindings in the Buchanan Collection', BLR 2 (1941), 6-12, at 9; Burlington Fine Arts Club, Exhibition of Bookbindings (London, 1891), Case B, no. 23. Rebacked.

A cancelled early inscription on Aa1r. Occasional notes, correcting the text, in an early hand in black ink.
