Binding: Sixteenth-century German blind-tooled pigskin on nineteenth-century calf; two ties lost. Triple fillets form a triple frame. Within the outer frame a double cresting roll. Within the following frame, a floral and foliate roll. Vertical triple fillets divide the inner rectangle into four rectangular compartments, the two outer ones decorated with a roll with heads and inscriptions: DVR and HEI, the two inner ones the cresting roll; for a similar roll see Haebler, Rollen- und Plattenstempel, II 385, although Sheppard notes that the measurements do not correspond with any given there.

Size: 355 × 270 × 60 mm.

Size of leaf: 353 × 256 mm.

‘112' in pencil in the upper left-hand corner of front pastedown, also on a label on the spine. On front pastedown a bibliographical note, apparently from Conrad Gesner, Bibliotheca universalis, in a nineteenth-century(?) hand, brown ink. A few marginal notes, mainly extracting key words, in fifteenth- and sixteenth-century hands, added before the reduction of the margins during the sixteenth century. Early manuscript title on [a2r].

On [*1r] a large initial ‘I' is supplied in blue with red pen-work decoration. On [a2r] an initial ‘I' is supplied in the shape of a red lance with a blue edge piercing the tail and mouth of a green dragon, which is spouting red fire. Other initials and paragraph marks are supplied in red or blue, some with reserved white decoration; capital strokes in red.
