Wanting the blank leaf [a1].

[T3] is cut away, without loss of text.

Binding: Sixteenth-century German blind-tooled doe-skin over wooden boards; two clasps and catches, and the central boss and four corner-pieces on each cover lost. On each cover triple fillets form an outer border. Further triple fillets form the inner rectangle which is decorated with a repeated floral roll. Eighteenth-century titles printed on coloured paper on the spine.

Size: 457 × 303 × 151 mm.

Size of leaf: 440 × 285 mm.

In the first six gatherings initials are coloured in red; paragraph marks, also capital and paragraph mark strokes, and underlining are supplied in red.

Provenance: Asbach an der Rott, Bavaria, Benedictines, S. Matthaeus, Benedictus; inscription on [a2r] in a seventeenth-century(?) hand: ‘In usum FF. Aspacensium'. Acquired between 1847 and c.1892, probably in 1850; not in Catalogus (1843) with Appendix.

Binding: Eighteenth-century gold-tooled red morocco; gilt-edged leaves; marbled pastedowns.

Initials are coloured in red; capital and paragraph mark strokes are supplied in red.

Provenance: Wiener Neustadt, Austria, Pauline Hermits; inscription on [*1r] in a seventeenth-century(?) hand: ‘Monasterii Neustadiensis ordinis Sancti Pauli p[rimi] Er[emitae].' Unidentified engraved book-plate, 99 × 140 mm; within an ornamental frame, Minerva seated, receiving books from six winged cherubs; in cartouche above: ‘Minerva duce'; below, a shield surmounted by a coronet, or, a crane with its vigilance, holding a serpent in its beak; inscribed: ‘B. Picart inv. F[rederik]. Ottens fe. 1727'; Sheppard notes that Clark did not find the book-plate in Linnig. J.-G. Michiels (fl. 1775); inscription on the Minerva book-plate: ‘De la bibliotheque du Capitaine Michiels'; stamp (twice) on [*1r] in red, and on [ff8v] in black: ‘Captne Michiels'. Gaspard Joseph de Servais (1735-1807); inscription on the verso of the front endleaf: ‘Bibliothèque: G. J. De Servais'.
