Wanting the blank leaf A1.

Binding: Seventeenth-century blind-tooled calf; red-edged leaves. Formerly chained: staple-marks of a hasp at the head of the upper cover. On both covers double fillets form a frame. The gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers.

Size: 280 × 207 × 58 mm.

Size of leaf: 275 × 196 mm.

Some marginal notes and underlining in the text mainly in one seventeenth-century hand. Pen-trials on u6v in a sixteenth-century English hand.

Two- to eight-line initials are supplied in red or blue; capital strokes are supplied in red.

Provenance: Andrew Twe[ ] (fifteenth/sixteenth century); name on u6v: ‘Andreas Twe[ ]'. Edward Bernard (1638-1697); Wanley's list, p. 2, no. 122. Among the books purchased in 1697 from Bernard's widow.

Binding: Eighteenth-century gold-tooled diced russia; yellow-edged leaves; marbled pastedowns; the arms of Wodhull stamped in gilt on the upper cover. Scars of index tabs on E2, G5, H6, K2, L4, a1, b3, c4, e3, g2, g8, i2, i8, k5, l3, m1, and q7.

Size: 307 × 215 × 41 mm.

Size of leaf: 295 × 186 mm.

Occasional early marginal ‘nota' marks and underlining in the text in black ink. Bibliographical notes by Wodhull and Douce on the recto of the front endleaf.

Two- to eight-line initials, some with extensions into the margins, are supplied in red, blue, or interlocked red and blue; paragraph marks, capital strokes, and underlining are supplied in red. On A2r –A3r the text is enclosed within double red rules.
