[a1r] [Title-page with colophon.] Incipit: ‘[F]idelis traductio in formam impressa in alma ciuitate Neapolis extracta de originali processu . . .’

[a1v] [Statement of the charges brought against the accused parties.] Incipit: ‘[G]eneralis inquisitio facienda ac informatio recepienda . . .’ The following were accused: Pyrrus de Bautio (i.e. del Balzo), princeps Altamurae; Antonellus de Sancto Severino, princeps Salerni; Hieronymus de Sancto Severino, princeps Bisignani; Johannes Carazolus (i.e. Caracciolus), dux Melfiae; Anglibertus de Bautio, dux Neritoni, comes Ogenti; Johanna de Sancto Severino, comitissa Sancti Severini; Barnabas de Sancto Severino, comes Lauriae; Bernardinus de Sancto Severino (son of Barnabas); Carolus de Sancto Severino, comes Mileti; Johannes Paulus de Bautio, comes Honogiae. All of the above were imprisoned in 1487 (after May) and were never seen again; see DBI XLVI 186.

Binding: Nineteenth-century brown morocco with gilt-edged leaves and marbled pastedowns.

Size: 244 × 188 × 9.5 mm.

Size of leaf: 238 × 175 mm.

‘1767' in pencil on [a1r] is probably the date of purchase by Joseph Cestarius (see below). ‘516' in an eighteenth-/nineteenth-century hand on a slip of paper now pasted onto the rear endleaf. ‘Ego Ang[elus] Maria Bandinius, Laurentianae Basilicae canonicus et Regius Mediceae Bibliothecae prefectus, uidi hanc rarissimam editionem magna cum uoluptate, quum essem Neapoli die xvii Februarii in domo clariss[imi] et eruditissimi iuuenis Josephi Cestarii ueterum monumentorum sollertissimi indagatoris' on k4r; Bandini is known to have been in Naples in 1778: see DBI V 700.

Provenance: Josephus Cestarius (1751-1799), 1767; see note above. Probably acquired by the Bodleian between 1842 and 1845, from the evidence of the shelfmark.
