Binding: Eighteenth/nineteenth-century Italian gold-tooled half red morocco over red pasteboards, with yellow-edged leaves, blue marbled pastedowns, and a pink silk bookmark.

Size: 205 × 145 × 22 mm.

Size of leaf: 199 × 131 mm.

Some marginal notes (up to a4v), mainly extracting key words, in a sixteenth-century Italian hand in light brown ink.

Provenance: Siena, Tuscany, Jesuits (sixteenth/seventeenth century); inscription on a1r: ‘Biblioth. Colleg. Soc. Jesu. Senensis: cat. (?)'. Dimitrij Petrovich, Count Boutourlin (1763-1829); armorial book-plate and shelfmark no. 773, see Catalogue (1831); his sale (1840), lot 350. William Horatio Crawford (1815-1888); armorial book-plate with the motto: ‘durum patientia frango'; see sale (1891), lot 2678. Purchased in 1893 from James Tregaskis, Catalogue 256, no. 328 [or perhaps 327], for £15; a cutting of the catalogue description is pasted on the front endleaf.
