Binding: Nineteenth-century half calf, with marbled paper boards; bound for Kloß; the gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers; lightly sprinkled red-edged leaves.

Size: 321 × 230 × 22 mm.

Size of leaf: 313 × 201 mm.

Copious marginal and interlinear notes on Bellum Catilinae and Valla's commentary in a contemporary German hand, extracting key words and personal names, and supplying synonyms, some extensive comments on the text (including references to other ancient authors) and brackets. On a1r in the same hand, a long note about Sallust and his writings, and about the value of poetry and history, beginning: ‘I[ ] diuini numinis | Antonius in quarto: Qui terram celi pateris deus omnia rursus eterni secreta tenens, mundique futurum conscius . . .’

Three- to seven-line initials, pilcrows, capital strokes, and some underlining are supplied in red.
