Binding: Contemporary blind-tooled quarter tawed pigskin over beech boards, with metal clasps hinged from lower to upper, and metal catches. On the upper cover triple fillets form a rectangular frame: tendril stamps make up merrythoughts, each containing a floral stamp. On the lower cover triple fillets form two thin rectangles: within the outer frame a repeated lozenge-shaped floral stamp, within the inner frame a repeated upright flower stamp. Three sewing supports. Remains of worn manuscript label at head of spine. The paper endleaves are later (eighteenth/nineteenth-century) additions.

Size: 326 × 219 × 47 mm.

Size of leaf: 312 × 213 mm.

Pasted on the covers, two copies of a broadside entitled ‘Die auferhebung des folcks und grosser nachfolgung des Sophi und spricht er sey ein prophet und sein gesetz das er neulich im Landt Persia auf erhebt hat', [c.1502], with woodcut; see also M‑293 for another copy.

Some marginal notes in a contemporary hand, mainly providing brackets and pointing hands. The note ‘SOPHI' on rear pastedown. On the verso of the first front endleaf an unidentified coat of arms, supported by the figures of a naked satyr and a woman with elaborate head gear, sketched in brown ink with no tinctures: on a chevron three roses, in base a mullet. At the head of the page: ‘Item nym mit lang'. On verso of front endleaf the pencilled note: ‘Emi in auctione librorum C. Nagel pro 1R 4'. On recto of rear endleaf in red ink the numbers ‘36 4'.
