Wanting the blank leaf [a1].

Binding: Eighteenth/nineteenth-century quarter calf over green marbled pasteboards, with imprint information stamped in gold on the flat spine. Red-edged leaves and manuscript title along the upper and lower (here upside down) edge.

Size: 293 × 218 × 48 mm.

Size of leaf: 290 × 207 mm.

A manuscript table of contents on six leaves at the end in a contemporary humanist hand, probably Italian, in brown ink. In the same hand a few marginal notes, mainly extracting key words, but also providing corrections to the text and manuscript foliation: 1-238.

Provenance: Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex (1773-1843); book-plate with handwritten shelfmark ‘W.e.14': see Lee, Royal Bookplates, 40-1 no. 23; sale, pt I, lot 4094. Purchased as item 2, with item 1 (A‑477) for £0. 10. 6; see Books Purchased (1844), 3 (listed under item 1).
