Binding: The damaged upper and lower covers of contemporary German blind-tooled leather (Augsburg, Kyriß workshop no. 81) over wooden boards have been relaid on nineteenth-century blind-tooled calf, for the Bodleian Library; rebacked. Two clasps and catches missing. Remains of a rectangular label at the head of the upper cover. Another rectangular paper label bearing a shelfmark ‘M (?)' at the head of the spine. Early manuscript title in brown ink, across the lower edge. Triple fillets form a quadruple frame. Within the outer frame no stamps. Within the following frame cresting and floral rolls. Within the following frame a roll of animals, trees, fences. In the inner rectangle curved-outline tools make up merrythoughts, decorated with thistle and floral stamps; see Kyriß pl. 165, nos 3 and 4; for a similar binding see J‑053.
Size: 309 × 215 × 70 mm.
Size of leaf: 298 × 190 mm.
A few marginal notes, mainly extraction of key words and biblical quotations, in an early German hand that also wrote one of the ownership notes from Wimpfen.
Initials are supplied in red.
Provenance: Wimpfen, Baden-Württemberg, Dominicans, Sancta Crux; inscriptions on 11r and 12r in two different early hands: ‘Conuentus Wimpinensis Ordinis Praedicatorum'. ‘Pertinet plebano in ossenna qui(?) accomodauit nunc anno domini 1.5.x. sed anno domini 1.5.17 dono dedit ad [ ]'. Date of acquisition unknown; c.1884 to judge by the shelfmark.
