Binding: Late seventeenth/early eighteenth-century calf, the spine gold-tooled. Sprinkled red-edged leaves.

Size: 306 × 209 × 33 mm.

Size of leaf: 297 × 191 mm.

Some marginal notes, most washed or deleted, in late fifteenth-century Italian and Spanish hands, supplying small initials in brown ink, corrections to the text, pen-trials, and a few comments in Latin and Spanish paraphrasing the text (e.g. on [d3r]: ‘Lecto funibri i el cadi lo[?]') and extracting some words from the text.

Provenance: Charles Spencer, (1674-1722), 3rd Earl of Sunderland. Blenheim Palace, Dukes of Marlborough; Spencer shelfmarks ‘C3: 54' in black ink and ‘62.e.10' in pencil in the upper left-hand corner of the front pastedown; Catalogue of the Books in the Library at Blenheim Palace (Oxford, 1872), 365; sale, Bibliotheca Sunderlandiana, lot 8259. Purchased through Bernard Quaritch in 1882 for £5. 2. 6; see the annotated sale catalogue and pencilled note on the rear pastedown: ‘Collected Nov. 1882 from B Quaritch'.
