Binding: Nineteenth-century blind-tooled calf; the gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers. Manuscript title along the upper edge.
Size: 340 × 232 × 43 mm.
Size of leaf: 333 × 213 mm.
A few marginal notes, extracting key words and names of authors, and a pointing hand, in an early hand, in a very faded red(?) ink. A few other notes of a similar kind in a different early hand in brown ink. In the same hand also early manuscript foliation: i–L ([f4]) only, and running book numbers, up to [d10] only.
On [a1r] a Roman three-quarter white vine-stem border on a blue, red, and green ground incorporating a six-line epigraphic initial ‘C' painted in gold; foliate extensions with some gold dotting in the outer margin, with, in a wreath in the lower margin, a coat of arms (see below); see Pächt and Alexander II, 108 no. pr. 32; other initials are supplied in red or blue.
Provenance: Unidentified coat of arms: a shield, azure, leopard's face or, mouth closed by a padlock argent. Faded sixteenth-century inscription in light brown ink on [*2r]: ‘Princip.(?) Grifali(?) S. E. C. | I | V‑22'. Sir Mark Masterman Sykes (1771-1823); note on the front pastedown. Purchased at his sale (1824), pt III lot 1028, for £7. 17. 6; see Books Purchased (1824), 11.
