On Ramusius as editor see Rodakiewicz, ‘De re militari', 23-4. This letter, dated Verona, 15 Oct. 1482, dedicates this edition of Valturius' work to Pandulphus Malatesta.

Binding: Eighteenth-century Italian parchment over thick paper boards. Resewn and recut in the eighteenth century. The gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers. Title in gilt on red and black leather labels and ‘*2*' on paper label on the spine. Yellow-edged leaves. Lime green silk bookmark.

Size: 311 × 217 × 50 mm.

Size of leaf: 305 × 202 mm.

Some marginal notes in two sixteenth-century Italian hands, extracting key words and supplying synonyms, brackets, and corrections to the text, and page references and additions to the text in the table. Bibliographical notes in Heber's hand on front pastedown and endleaves. The number ‘129' in ink on front pastedown and in pencil on rear pastedown. The number ‘254' in brown ink on recto of rear endleaf. Notes in upper margin of [*2r] erased.
